Quality Time with my Luckybox #10 Memebox: an Unboxing & Review

This was one of the first Memeboxes I ever purchased, though I had to wait some time to receive it. Luckyboxes, as well as Global boxes, are released on a recurring, monthly basis. This box is intended to contain favorites from past boxes. I think the moniker ‘Lucky’ is really key here because what’s deemed a favorite may depend entirely on what’s languishing in Meme’s warehouse, so how pleased you might be with each of these boxes may wholly depend on the luck of the draw.
The lovely Veri of PULCHRITUDINOUS  has an fantastic resource on her blog, which lists the contents of all prior Lucky and Global boxes. I utilized this when initially making my purchasing decision and determined that I was likely to enjoy the contents of this box, as prior iterations contained a nice mix of items; and a variety of cosmetics is, in fact, the spice of life.

Did I get lucky? Read on to find out!

luckybox 10

Luckybox #10 is finally here! In this Luckybox #10, you’ll find all you favorite beauty goodies featured in previous Memeboxes! You’ll find everything you need to keep on with your Memeboxing!

Dr Mj Bee Tox Cream

Dr. MJ Bee Tox Control Cream (55ml, RV $ 50)

Repair and renew with Dr. MJ’s Bee Tox Control Cream rich in skin-repairing agents – bee venom, propolis extracts, tea tree leaf water, rosemary extracts, and calendula extracts. It’ll soothe, nourish, and rejuvenate the skin damaged or stimulated from external environment by creating a protective moisture barrier over and retaining moisture and nutrition within skin.

Major ingredients:
Propolis Extract – skin conditioning
Tea Tree Extract – anti-inflammatory
Hyaluronic Acid – moisturizer
Trehalose  – moisturizer
Rosemary – astringent
Calendula – emollient, anti-inflammatory
Camellia – emolient
Chamomile – anti-inflammatory, whitening
Wtich Hazel – anti-inflammatory, astringent
Allantoin. – anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic
No color, parabens, mineral oil, or benzophenone.

Impressions: This item reminded me very much of the Royal Nectar mask and moisturizer in both composition and efficacy, though it has the added benefit of some anti-inflammatory ingredients. I tend to prefer creams, such as my beloved Goddess Cream, that a gelatinous in texture, as I find that’s really ideal for my combination skin. But I didn’t find this cream to be too heavy, though I still prefer it for night-time use. I think it does a good job of helping to combat any breakouts or related discoloration, as well as keeping me hydrated without leaving me oily.

mstar malus intensive hair treatment

Mstar Malus Intensive Hair Treatment (30g, RV $14)

Consisting 70% of apple water and made from 40 different kinds of naturally-derived extracts, the Malus Intensive Hair Treatment works to replenish protein and mineral nutrients to dry, damaged hair ends for strengthening and firming up the hair with continuous use.

malus5 malus4

Impressions: I really love this hair treatment. I typically use WEN – sometimes in conjunction with a shampoo and sometimes on its own – and I felt it did a nice job of keeping my hair in good condition. But it does have a tendency to build over time and leave a residue, on both hair and scalp (not cute). So I was very excited to try this alternative, particularly after reading about the powerhouse of ingredients and lack of anything that might be deemed harmful. Well, it really does do a lovely job of deeply conditioning my hair; leaving me with soft, shiny, manageable locks. I cut my hair significantly shorter recently and I’m kind of glad I won’t have to use as much of this treatment to keep it looking healthy because I don’t want to run out! I will definitely be picking up more of this when that sad day comes.

skin house aloe water mist

The Skin House Aloe Water Mist (80ml, RV $11)

A Finely spraying facial mist, the Skin House’s popular Aloe Water Mist is packed with aloe moisture for delivering instant replenishment to dry or irritated skin. A gentle, hydrating mist is definitely a beauty essential for every girl all season long!

Main Ingredients:
Tea Tree Extact – anti-inflammatory
Guarana Extract – skin-coniditoning
Aloe Extract – anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic

Impressions: So we all are well aware that it’s unlikely I will ever hate on a mist. I just adore them. Aloe mists are incredibly hydrating and refreshing and I’m so pleased with the addition of tea tree extract in this one. It really makes me feel as though I’m taking good care of myself and my skin and when I can quickly spritz throughout my day. This one comes in a lovely clear, plastic bottle that’s compact enough for me to carry in my purse. In comparison to my Derma House Aloe Mist from my Moisture Surge Memebox, I do prefer that scent to this one, but truly this one is lovely, so that’s my only minor ‘complaint’. Very happy with this item!

benton snaiil bee essence

Benton Snail Bee High Content Essence (60ml, RV $22)

This product contains 90% snail extract and bee venom instead of water. Powerful ingredients such as snail mucin and bee venom help to heal acne, fade acne scars, brighten skin tone, and maintain hydration throughout the day. Snail mucin supports natural cell regeneration and replenishes moisture to increase firmness, and bee venom has natural anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-viral properties. The gel-like essence is also fragrance free! Best recommended for those with sensitive and troubled skin.

Impressions: I’ve been very eager to try this serum because it is a HG for so many. There was some controversy over the summer with a contaminated batch of product (March 2014 batch) having caused considerable damage and stress for some people. I won’t get into all the sordid details here, but they can be found through a simple google search. Having said that, I do personally feel confident that the issue was isolated to that batch and haven’t heard of anything similar arising in recent months. While some people also take issue with how Benton handled that situation, I also feel satisfied that they have taken the appropriate, precautionary measures going forward.
After trying this serum for just a few days, I certainly understood what all the fuss was about. Similarly to my Royal Nectar mask, the beneficial results could be seen almost overnight. Unlike the RN products though, this item has the added benefit of being largely comprised of snail mucin. This ingredient has huge restorative and regenerative benefits. Combined with bee venom’s healing properties… well, this serum really is amazing. I’m going to have to jump on the bandwagon and declare it a HG for myself as well.

E choice snow brightening body cream

E choice Snow Brightening Body Cream (100g, RV $4)

Rich in mineral and herbal complex, the Snow Brightening Body Cream is an instant skin brightener which offers a long-lasting tone-up effect as well as a deep hydration and nourishment. it’s especially recommended for those troubling over darkened spots, uneven skin tones, or pigmentation.

Impressions: E choice seems to be a ‘budget’ k-beauty brand. This was the first item of theirs that I have tried and I found it to be a nice enough body lotion. I wouldn’t say it was anything special or something I would repurchase, but it has a nice, thick consistency – great for the colder months – and a creamy scent. The packaging is cute as well and would make a nice holiday gift. As far as the purported brightening benefits – I have minimal sun damage, but haven’t observed any changes in that regard.

beauty people eye liner

Beauty People Miss 100 Auto Gel Pencil Liner (0.5g, RV $38)

Randomly selected from Glimmer Coral, Glimmer Bronze, and Glam Brown.
Feature a sophisticated point eye makeup with Beauty People’s gel liner pencils that come in 3 delicate pearl shades – coral, bronze, and brown – and can be used as both a liner and a shadow. They’re auto-type liners that easily glides onto your eyelids, making them easy to use for even makeup beginners. Plus, there’s an eye liner sharpener attached on the other end for convenience.

Impressions: I was fortunate enough to snag a set of the non-auto version of this pencil (pictured below) about a month back, so I was already intimately familiar with the cuteness factor of the Snow White theme as well as the quality of these pencils. I was very pleased to receive another in Glimmer Bronze. This is a color I did already have in my set, but also one of my favorites, so I’m happy to have a backup! Really lovely liner with a creamy consistency as well as staying power and again, the cute factor is off-the-charts here. Another winner! [note the RV above is for a set of three]

blithe patting water pack

Blithe Patting Water Pack (pouch sample – full size RV $46)

Included are two pouches of each Energy Yellow Citrus & Honey, Soothing & Healing Green Tea, and Rejuvenating Purple Berry.
No need to stick on a sheet mask every night with Blithe’s all-new Patting Water Pack! Simply through patting on the water pack onto your skin, it’ll remove dead skin cells, delivery moisture and nutrition, and renew the skin balance for mailtaning soft, moist skin condition. The Energy Yellow Citrus & Honey revitalizes and brightens up the skin and the Soothing & Healing Green Tea is for oil and pore control, while the Rejuvenating Purple Berry works to improve skin elasticity and firmness.

Mild Exfoliation: Because of the presence of “carbohydrate fermented ingredient”, the dead skin cells are gently washed out.
Moisturising & Nourishment with vitamins: Replenish the skin with moisture and give vitality to the skin as it contains abundant cellulose, water soluble vitamins and minerals.
Skin Balance: Water can cause dryness as it makes the skin loses its balance by getting alkalized when washing. Patting water pack enhances the skin balance as it helps making the skin subacid condition in a short time.
Elasticity & Pore Care: Patting massage lowers temperature of the skin and smoothens its fine circulation. Also it is good for preventing the pores from being sagged and for skin elasticity as it strengthens up the skin barrier. Maximizes absorption rate of nutrients during skin care as it makes the skin condition optimal in a short amount of time. Your skin feels softer after just 3 days of use [source]

Impressions: This was one instance where I may have been happier to get deluxe samples rather than a full-sized product because I got try out all three variants. The bad news is, I really love them, so I may need to shell out the $46 (or whatever this costs outside of Memeland) to get the full-size. My favorite is the Soothing & Healing Green Tea, which I’ve added to about a 3/4 full bottle of my Derma House Aloe Mist. This suggestion came courtesy of Veri (again!) and her fabulous blog. I use this almost daily as a booster step after cleansing. I find it does wonders for balancing my skin and leaving it incredibly soft.

luckybox 10 info cards

Overall Impressions

I feel that my gamble really paid off this time around and $30 (with shipping) got me a box I am very pleased with. The overall Memevalue is approximately $139. I’m not counting the blithe packets because those were deluxe samples, but you can estimate the added value, which to me personally was quite significant. This was another box from which I was able to get good use out of all the items. I would say that I hope this trend continues, but we need Meme to come out with new boxes first! Whether the company is transitioning to something else entirely is a subject for extensive debate. I do hope they hold to the core of their business and not become just another online retailer, but time will tell. In the interim, I do have many more boxes on order that I look forward to thoroughly reviewing 🙂

A Brief Interlude with my OMG2 Memebox: a Special #32 Unboxing & Review

Nothing says love like when I come home to a surprise Memebox waiting for me on the dining room table – a siren’s song calling to me at the end of a long and stressful workday, promising new cosmetics goodies and unadulterated joy – nothing says love like seeing that and still going over to say hi to my husband first. I hope he appreciates the sacrifices I make on his behalf.

This box was a surprise because it was sent to me by the lovely people at Memebox (thanks Lauren!) and I was quite excited upon opening it because this was one in a long line of boxes whose unboxings I’ve seen online and instantly coveted. Somehow that excitement ended up fizzling a bit for me when I initially dug into this box in person, but I think I got to the crux of my issue  and it actually has nothing to do with the products that made up the contents. It took me a while to put my finger on it, but in looking over the box it dawned on me that this really screams ‘mature’ woman. Between the gold, the lavender, the snakeskin, the wrinkle-balance masks – I kind of felt like this box should go straight to my mom. She would have been thrilled, but alas, I’m definitely keeping a good chunk of these items because once you get past the (probably only odd to me) aesthetics, you get to some killer cosmetics. Is there an OMG factor to them? I really wouldn’t say so. I’ve come to view the OMG series as containing unique/interesting cosmetics ingredients, but nothing that I would call all that weird and funky. A part of me feels maybe this series warrants a re-branding. Maybe make it an Oh! box instead and temper expectations a bit 😉

If you haven’t had enough of our kooky beauty obsessions, take the OMG 2 beauty challenge!

We rounded up some of the kookiest and most unusual beauty trends that took Seoul by storm! From funky makeup trends to cool skin and hair treatments, these fun cosmetic innovations will definitely inspire you to rethink your current makeup routine. Loaded with even weirder, even funkier Memebox cult favorites, this box is a must have for beauty enthusiasts and beauty-holics!

Cristallin Celllulose Mask (28g x 2, RV $10)

These concentrated cellulose sheet masks encourage the skin’s natural recovery function by providing a rich infusion of nutrition to help improve skin’s clarity and elasticity. Plus, the jelly-like texture feels like an octopus wrapped around your face.

First Impressions: Alright Memebox, I feel like you just tacked on that last sentence because someone in HQ decided you need to justify why you’re putting masks in an OMG box. Despite that being a bit of a reach, these look like really wonderful gel masks and special since we typically only get the sheet variety from Memebox. Most gel masks are geared for the eyes only, so it’s quite lovely and luxurious to have a couple for your whole face. Gel masks can calm irritated skin, shrink pores and blood vessels, and lend themselves to an overall soothing experience. This particular variety has targeted ingredients for anti-aging, firming benefits. I’m going to stick these in the fridge before use for the ultimate refresher and really can’t wait to try them.

Ladykin Vanpir Dark Repair Cream (50ml, RV $50)

on sale in the Memeshop for $25

This Vanpir Dark Repair Cream is a clinically proven skin brightener that restores luminosity, corrects weak moisture barriers, and protects skin from future discolorations. This moisturizer with melanin-inhibiting green tea extracts visibly helps to diminish dark spots and discolorations while restoring clarity and brightness to dull, uneven skin. It also has anti-aging properties to enhance the look of skin by reducing the look of fines lines and wrinkles. It’s infused with Damask Rose, hyaluronic acid, and ummm Dragon’s Blood (?) to get you your best looking skin ever!

First Impressions: The packaging has adorable, little vampire teeth on it, which almost sold me right then and there. I was curious as to how this cream would compare to the Osho and I feel as though Osho came out ahead, in reviewing the ingredients. That cream is formulated without ethanol, benzophenone, mineral oil, alcohol, artificial color or fragrance, while I can’t say the same for the Vanpir (which contains at least half of them, from what I can tell). Now, I’m not a stickler for natural cosmetics, but that is always my preference, as I don’t want to be too harsh to my skin. The hyaluronic acid in the Vanpir instantly piqued my interest, as that ingredient is purported to have healing and anti-aging properties, but I think I will be passing this one on since I do own the Osho and enjoy it. I think my mom would really like this and I’m trying this new thing called not hording everything that comes into my possession.

Milky Dress Bohr-effect Carboxy Gel (1 set, RV $24)

on sale in the Memeshop for $8

Turn back the clock with this Bohr-effect Carboxy Gel! This 2-step facial mask cleans deep down into pores to extract pore-clogging bacteria, and firms and tightens sagging skin. The result? Facial contours appear sculpted and newly defined, lines and wrinkles look nicely smoothed, and skin is moisturized to perfection. Over time, skin’s strength, resiliancy, and volume appear renewed and you’ll see a remarkably younger, revitalized look. Directions: Apply the gel mask onto a cleansed face. Massage a generous amount all over cheeks, forehead, and chin. Place the 100% naturally made Korean paper mask sheet over the face. Layer on a second layer of the gel mask over the sheet mask. Leave on for 10 to 20 minutes. Remove. Rinse with tepid water.

First Impressions: I don’t usually include usage instructions in my reviews, but I had to add this one because I think part of the OMG factor here, is OMG that seems like a process! In all honesty though, I CANNOT wait to put my time in with this product because I kind of love that this will be a bit of a science experiment. Carboxy refers to carbon dioxide therapy and the Bohr-effect is how this CO2 will be formulated. This occurs when the gel is combined with the mask and is supposed to result in the stimulation of collagen and cell activity delays, creation of new cells, smoothing of facial features, improvement in fine lines and wrinkles, and deep exfoliation. Very excited by all this! This item could be considered OMG, but definitely more in the sense that OMG, that’s interesting rather than strange.

Priori Aroma Ac Moisture Gel Mist (100ml, RV $24)

Enriched with bee venom, propolis, sophora roots, balloon flower roots, and Multi Ex Magnotics, the Aroma AC Moisture Gel Mist helps soothe and treat skin troubles and blemishes. The lavender aroma essential oil is also infused for soothing and purifying both your skin and soul.

First Impressions: It’s finally happened. I found a mist I don’t like 😦 I really thought it an impossibility, but I find the scent of this one rather unpleasant. I know there are people out there who have very strong opinions about lavender and I didn’t think myself among them… but… you guys know how much I love my mists! To that end, I think I will be keeping this and seeing if I can get over it. Unlike most of my other mists, which are largely glacial water and aloe based, this one is packed with some wonderful skincare ingredients that not only soothe, but also treat. So it would really benefit me to douse my face in this now and then. I think I may save it for next summer, keep it chilled, and then have it handy for some poolside action. The thought of that already has me liking this mist more.

Seatree Syn-Ake Essence (45ml, RV $20)

This was randomly selected from either the Essence, which is what I received, or the Total Solution. For the life of me, I can’t quite figure out what would be the difference between these two.

Seatree Syn-Ake Essence contains youth-preserving ingredients, such as Syn-ake peptides, similar in composition to snake venom, and hylaluronic acid to help deliver targeted repair – as needed, where needed. Recommended for all skin types, ages, and ethnicities, it visibly addresses uneven skintone, lines, and wrinkles for a visibly firmer, more radiant, and more supple skin.

First Impressions: Finally, a syn-ake item!! I’ve been dying to try this cosmetics ingredient since first reading about it a few months back. As the description above alludes, syn-ake is a synthetic agent, so not actual snake venom because that would definitely hurt some people. Syn-ake replicates the effects of a peptide that is known as Waglerin 1, which is a component of the venom found in the Temple Viper, a poisonous snake native to southeast Asia. How cool is that?! Syn-ake is designed to work much like Botox, which reduces muscular contractions in the face and reduces cell movement; thereby keeping the skin smooth. The concept behind Syn-ake is that since snake venom causes muscular paralysis, a synthetic derivative of the venom would work to temporarily deaden the muscles in the face to prevent the formation or deepening of wrinkles (source). I feel that I’m at the right age to try this sort of thing. I don’t think I could ever get Botox because I find that it effects your appearance and expression to a severe degree, but this certainly seems like it may be a viable alternative.

Haruen Dorothy Haruen-S (1ea, RV $26)

This volcanic rock rollerball absorbs excess oil, grease, and other blackhead and acne inducers just by rolling it across your skin. Made with 100% volcanic rock, this mattifier controls oil and eliminate excess sebum and shine for a fresh look and longer-lasting makeup application.

Impressions: Unlike the rest, I’ve actually spent extended quality time with this item because after seeing it in the box originally, I purchased one without hesitation when it first became available in the Memeshop. My T-zone is forever and always a moist mess. I’ve won some battles, with the help of some fantastic cosmetics items I’ve received from Meme, but the war rolls on. So I was very interested in exploring an alternative to blotting sheets. I must admit, I was somewhat disappointed and that only has to do with the severity of my oiliness. When I find myself reaching for this at the end of a long day, it certainly does what it’s intended to do, but it takes a few repetitions of rolling, letting dry, rolling again, before my skin is clear. It may help if I remember to use it more regularly, so I’m still giving it a chance and trying to work out the kinks. The concept is very interesting and I had definitely never seen anything like it, so points on the OMG front for that.

Overall Impression

I did not pay for this box, but it originally cost $29 + shipping. It contains six full-sized products (with more than one of the masks – yay!) and a total memevalue of $154, though it’s $113 when adjusted for current prices. This box was a bit of a mixed bag for me, but overall I found more than half the items to be quite interesting and unique. I think Memebox may have a tough road ahead with this series. On one hand, this level of OMG isn’t enough for some hardcore k-beauty fans that have sort of been there done that, and know of some of the truly bizarre cosmetics out there. But on the other hand, Memebox doesn’t want to alienate what may be a broader swath of their global customer base, who may not want to go too far out there. OMG 3 has already been released and shipped out and that one struck me as very similar to this box, in that the products seem quite good, but somewhat lacking in the weird/funky/OMG department. So if you’re out to try some cool and different cosmetics, I certainly wouldn’t shy away from the OMG series, but if you’re looking for more of a shock factor, you may want to pick up those weirdly wonderful items directly. OMG 4 is already sold out, but you may be able to grab it when it gets closer to the shipping date (Nov 18th) and boxes that people may have cancelled typically pop up.

Quality Time with my Free from Oil & Trouble 4 Memebox: a Superbox #55 Unboxing & Review

I have been itching to talk about this box because it became a favorite soon after I had it in my eager possession, but I wanted to wait until I thoroughly tried everything and could give you some meaningful feedback.

Oil and Trouble I know well. Intimately, you might say. I have combination skin with an incredibly overactive T-zone. The rest could probably be considered ‘normal’, though very prone to clogging. So, trying to find that magical combination of products that would play nice with my skin and not leave me positively gleaming has always been an exercise in alchemy. When Memebox released this 4th installment of their Free from Oil & Trouble series, I didn’t hesitate to throw my money at them.

YES. A thousand times, Yes.

Tried and true—our Free From Oil & Trouble #4 is filled with the newest and best trouble-fighting and oil controlling products!

Turn down the shine and control excessive sebum with our Free From Oil & Troubles #4! This is the ultimate go-to box for covering those pesky little pimples, treating blemishes, and keeping skin matte all day! Our oil absorbing products are proven to work-fast, so that your skin is left refreshed, smooth, blemish free, and healthy-looking!

insobeau Acinc Blemish Spot Solution (15ml, RV $20)

Consisting of half liquid and half pink powder, this Acnic Blemish Spot Solution has a double layer to target skin troubles and red spots. Its mandarin and unshin oil formula from Jeju Island is rich in vitamins A, B1, B2, and C for relieving skin redness, lowering stress levels and protecting the skin from possible infections and further damage.

Impressions: This item was one of the spoilers that was announced in advance of the ship day and it got me very excited because I was already shopping around for a Korean spot solution. As you can see, it’s still mixed up from shipping in the photo above, but this settles to a bottom pink, powder layer and then a clear, oil layer on top. The idea is to dip a cotton-tip straight down and into both solutions and then apply this in thick dots over trouble spots. I really waned to love this and it’s not that I dislike it at all, but I just don’t find that it’s especially effective. I think I was expecting something more akin to American blemish treatments, which have acidic ingredients that really give spots a serious fight. I enjoy that this item is much more natural and seemingly aims to soothe those spots into submission, but I was anticipating something more instant and impressive. I will happily continue to use this item because I’m sure it’s infinitely better for my skin than the alternative I noted above, and honestly it wouldn’t kill me to learn some patience.

Pro You Aroma AC Cream (60g, RV $54)

The Aroma AC Cream is made from Pro You’s special Multi EX Magnotics formula consisting of green tea, grapefruit, machilia, and thujopsis dolabrata extracts, and works to tighten up enlarged pores and control the sebum level of your skin. It also contains various essential oils – juniper berry, lavender, and tea tree – which help soothe and purify irritated skin.

Impressions: I adore the Pro You brand. I’ve learned of their existence through Memebox and that seems to be the only place you can readily find a limited selection of their various lines – unfortunately, this item is not yet among them. I received Pro You products in both my Anti-Aging 3 and Daily Dose of Beauty boxes, and all I have to say is keep them coming!

I have been so eager to try this cream, but I had barely put a dent into my beloved Goddess Cream and I wanted to wait until that was gone before opening another, but my curiosity and unadulterated excitement about this item got the better of me. Most creams/moisturizers are much too heavy for me. My T-zone is a shining beacon before I even finish application and my makeup has no chance of survival. I thought I had found my HG in the Goddess Cream, and by no means does this product take away an ounce of my love for that beautiful, peachy gel… but wow, I think I may have found another HG. I honestly didn’t even realizing a mattefying moisturizer existed outside of my wildest dreams, but Memebox has brought us together. In addition to sebum control – which has been the most impactful for me – this cream is packed with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory ingredients to treat problem skin. Antioxidants help prevent environmental damage, build collagen, help skin heal, and produce healthier skin cells. With this type of ingredient, you really can’t have too much of a good thing. Anti-inflammatory ingredients serve to reduce signs of inflammation, such as swelling, tenderness, pain, irritation, or redness. I have already picked up a backup from a sale in one of the Memebox FB groups, and I’m comforted to know that I won’t be without this gem for a while.

The Skin House Dr. Clear Magic Toner (130ml, RV $25)

Enriched with tea tee extracts, Dr. Clear Magic Toner is a spray-type mist toner which works to soothe and control excess skin blemishes and to balance out the skin’s moisture/oil level for a clearer, healthier-looking complexion overall. Contains mallow flower, hyssop, common thyme, red clay Jijangsu, Ecklonia cava Kjellman in Kjellman & Petersen extract.

Impressions: This was the first toner I received from Memebox – huzzah! However, my excitement was tempered a bit by the news that this product contained methylparaben. Of course, red flags went up for me, but after doing extensive reading on the subject (including published research), it seemed the consensus was that methylparaben is not harmful in the concentration found in cosmetics, even over time. It’s an anti-fungal element and utilized as a preservative. Having been comforted somewhat  – and not having another toner on hand – I pressed on. I do like a lot about this product. The fact that it’s a mist is incredibly convenient and I find I’m able to distribute it quickly and evenly. I do also think it’s quite effective, in that it calms my skin and also does a nice job of prepping it for the steps ahead. However, I can’t quite get over the scent. I wouldn’t call it unpleasant and it may be some of the thyme notes that I’m getting, along with the mallow flower, which is a skin conditioning agent. Either way, it’s just not doing it for me. After getting all up in my face with the heavenly-scented Ariul mist from the Earth & Sea Cosmetics box, following up with this is just downright unpleasant. I’m using it for now, and I do think it certainly does the job, but I will be moving on once I receive another toner option. Life is too short to deal with funky cosmetics!

Benenet Herb & Bee AC Control Serum (60ml, RV $38)

The Herb & Bee AC Control Serum contains bee venom, which is 75% protein and has proven effective in relieving, protecting, repairing, and hydrating the skin, and also 5 different kinds of herbal extracts from grapefruit, cintron, eucalyptus leaf, sophora root, and clove flower which all help maintain a healthy skin balance.

Impressions: Bee venom works by tricking the skin into believing it has been lightly stung, which causes the body to direct blood towards that area, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, which promote skin repair. In addition – and more relevant to this product – the venom acts to remove excess keratin and sebum, eliminate acne inducing bacteria and block inflammatory agents within skin pores to heal acne lesions. The other, herbal ingredients are largely antioxidants, which we covered above. So all very, very good stuff and yet I was rather taken aback by just how effective this serum is. It really does help to control sebum and treat blemishes, while still leaving my skin hydrated. The consistency is on the thinner-side for a serum and the scent is just  what I would call ‘fresh’. I have already snagged a backup from a Memebox FB group (again), so I am very pleased to have an extensive supply of this hard-to-find item.

Lindsay Linzy Egg Pack (60g, RV $12)

The Linzy Egg Pack is a blackhead and pore controlling cleanser kit consisting of a White Egg and a Red Clay Egg. Firs, the White Egg is made from real egg whites and witch hazel complex, which work to cleanse away any skin impurities clogged up in your pores. Then, the Red Clay Egg containing red clay and NMF complex effectively tighten up enlarged pores for a smoother, suppler complexion.

Impressions: Witch hazel acts as an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and astringent all in one, while NMF is a moisturizing ingredient. The foundation of these eggs though are egg whites and red clay; the former draws out oils and tightens skin, while the latter is largely utilized for its absorbing properties. This item was the first spoiler from the box and while I was intrigued and thought the eggs adorable, I questioned the possible efficacy of something so ‘cutesy’. This was the first item I used after receiving the box and man, was I pleasantly surprised. First of all, these eggs – particularly the Red – smell absolutely divine. I truly feel, at times, that the degree to which I will like a box begins with whether or not I’m overtaken by an amazing scent upon opening it. It just helps to start on the right foot! Back to the eggs. These are first and foremost, wonderful cleansers, but they also do some amazing things for my skin that I noticed after even the first use. It’s rare that you find a product that delivers on its claims, but these two, cute eggs really did help to clear out and tighten my pores. A lot of Korean cosmetics brands make variations on this theme, but I can only speak to this set in particular.

Now, I would be remiss if I didn’t include a word of warning. One of my fellow Memebox Addicts and AMAZING blogger/writer, Kelsey from All These Lotions and Potions had nothing resembling my experience with these eggs. In fact, her experience was quite traumatic. So, two decidedly opposing opinions, but that’s the risk you take with skincare… everyone’s skin is different and products may react differently with them. I really should be patch-testing before slathering every hot, new thing that comes along on my face :/ But, in those initial, whirlwind moments with a new love, we don’t want to consider heartbreak!

ideeB Goodbye Oil Pact (12g, RV $12)

The shine-stopping translucent pressed powder blots oil and keeps shine at bay. The lavender shade applies invisibly and works on every skintone. Try it on naked skin or over foundation or touch ups any time throughout the day because the formula contains super lightweight, oil-absorbing ingredients to get you shine-free results.

Impressions: I was so pleased that Memebox included a makeup item in this box and this turned out to be a great one. I had been using the Innisfree No Sebum Mineral Pact and was quite happy with it, but excited to get another variation. I imagined they would be about the same, but the most impactful difference is that the ideeB’s powder is a bit looser and much easier to pick up. Consequently, the application is much easier and it’s nice to have the option to apply with a powder brush rather than just the poof. The compact is slightly larger than the Innisfree, which I prefer as well. The lavender tone the description mentions is so invisible, in fact, that I would be hard-pressed to identify it at all. Honestly, it looks completely white and translucent. But that’s fine with me. I don’t know how well this would work on darker comlexions, but I don’t find that it whitens me at all. Rather, it blends quite nicely with my skintone or makeup and is hugely effective in controlling excess oil throughout the day. I have already picked up a backup for this item as well.

Overall Impressions

This box cost $32 + shipping and contained six full-sized items. The overall memevalue is $161 and the value to me is exceptional. I really adore the great majority of this box, having purchasing backups for half the items already, yea… I think I’m a fan. I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase the next in this series, as it seems to be perfectly tailored to my skin type and concerns.

Quality Time with my Earth & Sea Cosmetics Memebox: a Special #31 Unboxing & Review

I know I am very late to the party with this one. I discovered Memebox right on the cusp of Earth & Sea’s initial ship date and was too distracted by other, flashier boxes to realize what I so carelessly cast aside. After seeing the full contents, it quickly became my white whale (except I fared better than Ahab). This was the box I coveted above all other past boxes. The one that prompted me to stalk the site, hoping against all hope for a restock that finally came. Why Earth & Sea? It just… spoke to me. My combination skin loves all thing ash and charcoal, so I was essentially sold on that point alone, but the ‘sea’ elements in the box drew me in as well. The miraculous combination of products that drew out impurities and refreshed the skin was simply irresistible. I know, you’ve likely heard it all by now. Few who have attained this box had anything negative to say about it. Undaunted, I add my voice to the cacophony of praise; although, there are some sour notes as well. I’ve spent a few, special weeks with my Earth & Sea Cosmetics box now and feel I may have something of substance to offer in the way of a review. I’ve also included links to purchase the products that have quickly become some of my HGs.

When toxins, dirt and oil build up get under the skin, its waste-filtering system gets jammed, ultimately clogging up pores and making skin look dull.  So, we’re bringing you nature’s clean up crew to clear the way for cleaner and brighter skin.

Charcoal, volcanic ash and mud all work together to draw out dirt and excess oil to extract stubborn impurities from deep within pores! Mineral rich marine energy works as the step 2 treatment for refining pores and replenishing moisture to the skin.

Our Earth & Sea Cosmetics Box offers the best natural ingredients  to give you your best looking skin yet.

Tosowoong Super Aqua Cooling Gel (80g, RV $34)
Available at the link above, or on eBay for $29.98

The Super Aqua Cooling Gel is an ultra-cooling cream gel that provides long-lasting freshness and comfort to the face and body. Full of minerals and nutrients from glacier waters, this gel is ideal for cooling overheated skin and relieving irritated skin. Deep sea minerals also strengthen and moisturize skin so that you can have firm and supple skin all day long.

Tosowoong Hydration Cream

Impressions: I really like this brand and this product looked pretty amazing. I waged an epic internal battle when it came to this item because on one hand I would have loved to try it, but on the other I am turning into a cosmetics hoarder. An opportunity presented itself for me to swap this item for something I was already using and loving from the Free From Oil & Trouble 4 Memebox (review to follow!) and I decided to take the plunge and get a backup of the serum that I was so enjoying. Initially, I was going to hold this product until the summer because it seems like it would be ideal for the season and very refreshing. I think I would have been more apt to keep it if I suffered from dry skin, but thankfully that is not one among my litany of issues. This gel was a gorgeous blue color with a lovely fresh scent. The texture (which I tested using a spatula) was lovely and reminded me slightly of the Goddess Cream, aka the most amazing moisturizer my combination skin has ever known. That was another thing that gave me some comfort as I let this baby go – I had something even better to substitute. I will be posting an individual review of the Goddess Cream in the near future, but in the interim please let me reassure you that I have used every other item in this box, so you should definitely keep reading 😉

Secret Nature Volcanic Ash

Secret Nature Volcanic Ash Pore Pack (100g, RV $36)

on eBay for $16.98

Enriched with organic Jeju complex and mineral rich volcanic ash, charcoal, green tea, and pine needle extracts, this Volcanic Ash Pore Pack works wonders for controlling excess sebum and tightening enlarged pores. Plus, it’s free of parabens, artificial fragrances, and artificial coloring, and suitable for all skin types.

Impressions: This item was one of the things that made this box incredibly appealing to me. It’s a grey, fairly thick cream with a scent that’s indicative of the green tea and pine needle extracts that are some of its main ingredients. Clogged pores are a recurring issue for many and every product I have ever tried that has charcoal or ash in it has helped me to achieve fantastic results. I was very pleased to learn that this pack is no different. For those unfamiliar with Korean cosmetics terms, a pack would be akin to a mask in the US. I think a lot of people tend to pile this sort of thing on, but it’s best applied in an even and fairly thin layer all over the face. After about 15 minutes or so, the mask will dry and your face will feel tighter. I used to scrub this sort of thing off, but since embarking on my Korean skincare regimen I’ve been a lot kinder to my face; so I just splash water on for a minute or so until all residue is gone. My face feels incredibly clean after this treatment and pores tight. I have definitely noticed that this masks helps to clear away clogging and also that I don’t get as much of that since I’ve begun using it. I have already purchased a backup, so that really speaks volumes.

   Dewytree Powder

Dewytree Mineral Healthy Sun Cut Loose Powder SPF36 PA++ (10g, RV $34)

Unfortunately this product is very difficult to find. The Memeshop does offer a comparable item made by Natural 100. Innisfree also makes a fantastic mineral powder that that can be found on eBay for $7.15 (though it doesn’t offer the same sun protection)

Dewytree’s loose powder is enriched with natural minerals and essential oil for maintaining your skin’s moisture level and leaving a long-lasting silky finish to a makeup. Plus, it has a UV protection level of SPF 36 PA++ and uses an air pocket puff that does not clog pores with powder application.

Impressions: The PA++ may be unfamiliar to some, as it’s a rating system that was originally developed in Japan and is used to indicate how much UVA protection a product has, whereas the SPF refers to UVB protection. The UVA rating ranges from PA+ to PA+++, with higher being better. There is some controversy as to the accuracy of the tests utilized in determining these levels, but I find that it’s still a useful indicator of sun protection. To that end, I have never owned a powder that offers sun protection and was very happy to have received this one. It comes packaged in a small jar with a mirror on top of the lid. When you open it, you find the air puff that is attached to a yet another, screw-on lid. The item also comes with an extra puff, which I really appreciated. The packaging is clever and compact and nice option for travel. I have used the puff to dab the powder onto my face after makeup application, but then use a powder brush to blend it a bit better. The powder’s texture is quite lovely and delicate. It is translucent, but does have a slight golden tone so I’m not sure that it would work well on a darker complexion. I love love love that this powder has a matte finish and it does double-duty in also helping to control excess sebum throughout the day. A wonderful item I have been using regularly.

Shara Shara Mask

Shara Shara Black Charcoal Mask Purifying (23g, RV $2)

on Korea Depart for $8.85/5PK

Shara Shara’s Black Charcoal Mask contains high concentrates of charcoal powder and volcanic ash complex for clearing your skin of dirt, impurities, and sebum clogging up your pores. It also works to soothe and protect sensitive skin with its wine and aloe very leaf formula.

Impressions: I absolutely loved this mask. I am typically of the mindset that more is better when it comes to getting your money’s worth on cosmetics, but I really dislike when sheet masks are overly-saturated. This one contained the perfect amount of serum, was easy to put on and adjust, and felt amazing both during an after. My face was noticeably clearer and brighter. While this is, of course, a full-sized item, I truly wish Memebox included more than just one mask. Thankfully, one was enough to demonstrate this mask’s efficacy, so I will definitely be hunting down more.

Elastic Pore Mask Cleansing Foam

Elizavecca Elastic Pore Mask Cleansing Foam (120ml, RV $29)

on Amazon for $19.99

Made from 3,000mg of collagen from pig skin, and spider extracts, the Elastic Pore mask Cleansing Foam is a mask and a facial cleanser all in one. As weird as the combination of charcoal, collagen, and spider extracts sounds, this black mask will penetrate deep into your pores, clearing away all dead skin cells and blackheads with bubbles a s fine as spider web. A quick 5 minutes every day is all your ever need to treat enlarged pores and excess skin impurities!

Impressions: I find the duality of the adorable packaging being representative of the ingredients that lie within somewhat amusing – in a really morbid way. But I do consume meat and if products like this mean that parts of the animal don’t go to waste, then I’m all for it. This was an item I was very excited about. Elizavecca has an excellent reputation and I’ve been a big fan of their other products (such as the Collagen Jella Pack – amazing!). This also seemed to be formulated to address a number of my concerns and contain some of my favorite ingredients (charcoal and collagen). Unfortunately, all that amounted to my being very uncertain about this item :/ I’m not put off by the black color or somewhat thick texture, but these are just not things that I look for in a cleanser and so I just really didn’t enjoy my Piggy Pore Cleansing experience. I also didn’t find it all that foamy and that made the 3-5 minutes of massaging this over my face all the more unpleasant. But alright, who cares about all that if the results are good. Well, the results were mixed. My face did feel nicely clean once I washed this off, but also more dry and dull than with other cleansers. After my initial experience, I came across an Instagram post noting that the pH of this product was very high. That would explain the after-affects. I haven’t used it since, but am torn about where to go from here. Many people really adore this product, so I do wonder if I didn’t give it enough of a chance. I may try it again and use an aloe mist after to soothe and re-hydrate my skin and maybe bring it back to an appropriate pH (4.5-6).

Spa Water Mist

Ariul Spa Water 24 Hours Moisturizing Refreshing Mist (100ml, RV $18)

Unfortunately, this is another product that is difficult to find online, but there is a similar Ariul item available from the Memeshop for $19.

Ariul SPA WATER 24hours Moisturizing Refreshing Mist is made from pure spa water extracted straight from Belgium rich in minerals and various amino acids. The Mist works to deliver an instant replenishment into your skin, creating a moisture barrier for preventing any dehydration for all day long. It can also be used as a boosting serum for enhancing absorbency of other skincare products.

Impressions: This Mist. Oh man. I’m starting to realize I have a thing for mists, but wow some of them are just amazing and I wonder where they’ve been all my life. I’ve been using this one strictly as a booster and it works wonders as the step after cleansing and before toner. It really helps to rehydrate my skin and also prep it for the many lotions and potions to come. I truly consider it one of the most vital steps in my skincare regimen because it so effectively helps my skin to take in everything else that I slather on. If you don’t currently have a booster step in your skincare routine, I strongly encourage you to add it! It takes seconds and is hugely worthwhile.

Overall Impressions

This box cost $29 + shipping and has an overall Memevalue of $153. The main determinant of value to me is how many of the products I truly love and will use. With this box, it’s an overwhelming majority. The items here were wonderfully curated to the theme (though the Piggy foam could be questionable) and I feel this theme is appropriate for a variety of skin types and concerns. This may be why this box was one of Meme’s most popular and people are still clamoring for restocks. I hope they make this a series because I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase another Earth & Sea Cosmetics box. I did purchase The Little Mermaid Princess Edition box in the hopes that it will be similar. Fingers crossed! If this box ever pops up again as a restock – and it has at least three times now – I strongly encourage you to grab it!

Quality Time with my All About Brows Memebox: a Superbox #57 Unboxing & Review

**11/07 updated – this box has been restocked! Not sure how many are available, so get it while the getting is good 🙂 **

**10/28 update – this box is currently available as part of a value set with CPM)**

I received a couple of other boxes before this one (Earth & Sea Cosmetics and Free From Oil & Trouble 4 – reviews to come!), but I had to move this one up in line because I was quick to try everything and more importantly, love everything. So I had to share my findings with you lovelies in case this one pops up as available again. This box was slow to sell and the impression I got of why many people didn’t purchase it was mainly due to the colors being a crapshoot. But I decided to take my chances because brows are one of my problem areas and I will take any help I can get! I typically use an Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz, which is $20 a pop. I really love it actually, but this box was $19 + standard shipping, and I’m sure I ended up paying even less using coupon codes (see below!), so it was a no-brainer to get a whole box of new brow solutions to try out – and I was not disappointed. In fact, I’m going to add my review to the Memebox site as soon as we’re done here  because I think this box is getting an undeserved bad rep! Here we go.

(If you are new to Memebox, I urge you to please enter my GIVEAWAY for a chance to win a box of your choosing!)

All About Brows

Let’s face it. Not everyone is born with a pair of perfect arches!

But, no worries because we’ll take your botched brows to rehab with this expert approved All About Brows Box! Packed with all K-Style inspired eyebrow essentials, this box will give you everything to recreate the signature Korean look with full, youthful brows!

So I mentioned my brows being a problem area. I don’t know who left me alone with tweezers when I was younger, but there should be a hazard warning on those things. I obviously had no idea what I was doing as a teenager, and no one stopped me, so I ended up massively over-plucking over the years and alas, my brows haven’t grown back all that well 😦 I was thrilled to open up this box of goodies to add to my repertoire.

Choco SmudgeSecret Kiss Choco Smudge Eyebrow (5g, RV $11)

Currently on sale for $7 in the Memshop

It’s a mascara for your brows! Highly waterproof and containing panthenol components rich in nutrition, the Choco Smudge Eyebrow offers naturally defined and youthful-looking arches with just one quick smudge!Adds natural color and volume to brows that need a lift. You randomly received either 01 Milk Choco or 02 Dark Choco. Although the above shots look a little light, I actually received the Dark Choco, which is the one I wanted.

Impressions: I’ve seen a lot of people note with confusion and dismay that this brow mascara has shimmer. This is actually not at all uncommon with this type of product, as the shimmer adds dimension; so your brows end up having a more three-dimensional rather than flat look. I really like this stuff. Does it look like it’s high-end? Absolutely not. But it does the job and quite well. I’ve used it on it’s own and it added some fullness and pigment to my brows (which was already a vast improvement), but I like it even more when used in addition to an brow pencil. Of course, this does double-duty by keeping your brow hairs in place as well, which is very necessary for me because while my brows are sparse, the individual hairs tend to be on the longer side (yes, despite my trimming properly – I told you, I have issues).

Brow Cake

Shara Shara I Wanna Eyebrow Cake (4g, RV $13)

Shara Shara’s I Wanna Eyebrow Cake contains two shades – a lighter brown and a darker brown – so that you can mix up the two colors for featuring a perfect shade that suits your very own complexion and hair color. Plus, the smudge proof coating powder and the included diagonally-edged brush makes it easy to apply and long-lasting. This was randomly selected from 01 Dark Grey and 02 Soft Brown. I received the Dark Grey.

Impressions: I was hoping for Soft Brown, but after my initial disappointment I realized that this is actually a much better match for my brows. It also made me realize that both options could really be utilized with a number of different hair colors (within limits) – particularly if you mix the two shades as Meme suggests. I really love the tiny compact because I had not owned a brow powder previously that I could easily carry with me and apply or correct on the go. It’s unlikely that I would actually need to do that, but it’s nice to have the option! The powders are a nice quality that aren’t too heavily pigmented, so you can really build the right look rather than getting STRONG BROW right out of the gate. I wouldn’t necessarily use this cake to shape my brows, but it’s a wonderful filler.

Happy Tool Lady’s Eyebrow Razor (1ea, RV $7)

This is an eyebrow razor for ladies with its attached brush and a heart-shaped mini mirror for necessary fix-ups any time throughout the day. SImply pop it out from your makeup pouch and shape your brows using the razor and the mirror or quickly brush up your clumping eyelashes.

Impressions: Alright, so this thing is pretty cute, but I was slightly terrified of it initially. I had never used a brow razor before and I was convinced I’d go to use the brush end and end up either slashing my meager brows off or severely hurting myself. Quickly use it to brush up clumping eyelashes? You mean, get it near my eye?? That is the stuff of nightmares. No, thank you. But I decided to be brave and actually did really enjoy using this razor, which isn’t deadly sharp thankfully (I can’t be trusted). I’ve used it mostly for other facial hair “touch-ups” rather than brows and that’s been lovely. Nothing worse than a random stray hair popping up on your face, so it’s good to have this in your makeup bag and ready to go to deal with those kinds of emergencies. Nice item that I definitely would never have purchased for myself, but am happy to own.

Pencil & Powder

Style Y Natural Sketch Eyebrow Pencil and Powder 01 Light Brow (0.5g, RV $10)

The Style Y’s Natural Sketch Eyebrow Pencil and Powder work together to define the eyebrow line with a natural-looking, delicate finish. The triangular-shaped brow pencil gives a fine tip for drawing the outline of the brow line while the tip powder delicately fills in throughout the empty spots featuring full, well-behaved arches.

Impressions: I really wish this was a shade darker to match my brows better, but I don’t mind the color too terribly. I think I will use this when I’m going for a softer look and lighter brows are more appropriate. It certainly doesn’t look unnatural and I like that I can now have some variety with my brows. I really enjoy the pencil and powder combo. Much like the brow cake, neither end of this is highly pigmented, so you can really build up your desired look. It’s a nice all-in-one tool as the pencil end is perfectly-sculpted to create a clean shape and the powder allows you to fill in.

Brow Tattoo

Style Y Natural Sketch Eyebrow Simple Tattoo (0.7g, RV $9)

This is a waterproof, long-lasting, sharp-ended eyebrow pen that draws onto the brows with its thin tip and its ability to adjust the color density for a precise and natural-looking tattoo eyebrow.

Impressions: I was a little nervous about this one because tattoo sounds… well, permanent… so I proceeded with caution. But this is probably one of my favorite items in the box. The tiny tip allows for precise application and while the color out-of-the-box seems like it may be entirely too dark, it actually lends a very natural appearance to my brows and is again, something you can build up to the right level of pigmentation. I love, love, love the longevity of this stuff. I’ve pretty much been using it continuously, though it hasn’t needed many reapplications at all. This is my new go-to “I would love to look like I have normal brows even if I’m not wearing full makeup” tool. Very happy to own it.

Etude House Ribbon Scissor (1ea, RV $3)

Incredibly adorable pair of mini scissors for clipping away extra-long brow hair and shaping the overall shape of your brows.

Impressions: As Meme noted, these are ridiculously adorable, and as you can see above, a pretty great match for MemePink. They state “Love me” and I can’t help but! The scissors are better quality than I had anticipated, having seen photos prior to receiving the box. Their “action” is a little tight, but I think that will ease up with use. I had previously been using manicure scissors to tame my brows, but will happily be switching to these, as I think the non-curved end is more effective for the job.

Info CardsOverall Impressions

I think it’s quite clear I was a fan of this box. It contained 6 full-sized items and had an overall value of $53, which is rather low for Memebox’s typical return-on-investment, but I really can’t complain because I still got more than my money’s worth. A lot of people seemed to have found issue with the box not being tailored to either light or dark brows, and I completely agree that would have been lovely. But you knew you were taking a risk if purchasing this one. If I was a blonde, I likely wouldn’t have taken the plunge. But for me, my brows can really handle a broader range of tones, so it worked out. I also enjoy the variety of tools vs makeup. Again, something not everyone appreciated. Alas, that is the luck of the Memedraw. I think it helped that I didn’t have high expectations beyond receiving some new items for my brow arsenal and I was wholly prepared to sell or trade if colors didn’t work out. My skin has been looking fantastic since I discovered Memebox, and with the addition of these items, I feel great about sporting a no-makeup look pretty regularly. Brows are essential, even when all else is bare!

Quality Time with my Moisture Surge Memebox: a Special #35 Unboxing & Review

I purchased this box on a whim because WINTER WAS COMING and like John Snow, I don’t know much, but I know that the cold weather does a number on my combination skin. The Moisture Surge Special box from Memebox seemed like one possible solution.

I purchased this box for $23 + standard shipping. Though I never pay full price, as Memebox is kind enough to offer us a bevy of discounts (please use my links and see below for some of these codes!). If you purchase 5 boxes within a three-month period, you are granted VIP access and with it, all manner of wonderful discount codes that will have you spending unfathomable amounts of money on pink boxes from Korea. But you’re saving so much! It would be a travesty not to take advantage. The struggle is real. This box had 6 full-sized items, though one of these was a set of deluxe samples, so you could argue it’s more like 7.5 items overall.

If you are new to Memebox, I urge you to please enter my GIVEAWAY for a chance to win a box of your choosing!

Here, ladies and gentlemen, is Moisture Surge:

It’s a Dry Skin Smackdown!
Dry, flaky skin sucks almost as much as breakouts and oily skin! Whether you’re dealing with an all-over moisture problem or battling just a few annoying dry patches, this Moisture Surge Box will cure all, even during the harshest fall and winter months! This box will lock in moisture for a dewy and supple complexion , and fortify the skin’s moisture barrier for all day hydration!
Get your hydration on with Memebox because glowing skin is in

insobeau Hiaromax Vitamin Stick (10g, RV $29)

A quick 1 second swipe of this Hiraromax Vitamin Stick along especially dry areas of your face – eye contours, mouth contour, cheeks – will instantly replenish and moisturize the skin for  a brighter and more supple complexion overall. Plus, the rich vitamin and hyaluronic acid formula works to cool, soothe, and even treat enlarged pores.

Impressions: This item led me on a rollercoaster of emotion. Initially, I was pleasantly surprised that the stick had such a soft, smooth texture. I was expecting something more firm, like a coco-butter stick I’ve used in the past, but this was a much nicer consistency. My excitement quickly faded though, when I tried the product and it really seemed to just sort of sit on top of my skin like a waxy buildup rather than being absorbed and moisturizing. But I haven’t yet given up on it! Colder months are coming and it’s possible I may find my mind changed. I think I’d really like for this to work, so maybe I can will it to be so. The scent of the product is another detractor for me. It has a very medicinal scent, much like Vicks vaporub. So very much torn on this one and a little suspect of the Memeprice. The packaging is quite lovely though and ideal for tossing in your purse and using on the go.

Wish Formula Premium Ampoule Mask (1ea, RV $14) & imface Vio-Zellose Neck Patch (10ml, RV $5)

The miracle Premium Ampoule Mask improves the skin’s natural recovery power wile it also works to combat wrinkles and deeply nourishes the skin, leaving it moist, supple, and radiant. The neck patch has a naturally-derived coconut jelly texture, imaface’s special Botanical Wrinkle Complex extracts, and adenosine complex all working to treat signs of aging along your neckline. This product is free of paraben, benzopenone, sulfate artificial pigment, and artificial fragrance.

Impressions: I find my level of Memexcitment grows exponentially when I find out I’m getting a neck treatment in a box. Much like the thrill that Tibetan Mushroom neck cream from the Anti-Aging 3 box brought to me, this neck patch did not disappoint. Unfortunately, one mask isn’t enough to really give you a proper idea of how effective an item is, but it was quite lovely and left my neck area looking a bit smoother and feeling tighter. Similarly, I didn’t see any lasting changes from the ampoule mask, but it was a very nice sheet mask that left my face glowing. These two items made for a fabulous pampering sesh one evening – just wish I had more! (particularly neck patches)

original raw Deluxe Kit ver 3.0 (30ml x 3ea, RV $60)

The Black Bubble is made from all naturally derived cleansing complex, boosting its auto-bubble system which works when the oxygen transmitter from its formula meets the air and automatically transforms into fine, minute bubbles for cleansing deep into and throughout your face. The Chan-mool Patting Essence has a tangly and jelly-like texture, which relieves, moisturizes, brightens, and tightens up the skin all in one, by creating a protective moisture barrier. The Water Block Black Jam’s black component is extracted from plants and together with the super hyaluronic acid combine to create a moisture wall over your skin. A single application will last you up to 48 hours without any further re-hydration.

Impressions: Man, do I love this set. I loved it so much that I promptly put it away after only using it a few times because I wanted to save the rest for when I travel. This kit is the perfect size to fill that need and would allow me to bring what is essentially a full skincare system without having to pack a separate suitcase for all my products. These products act exactly as described with the Black Bubble being the most unique of the three with its effervescent bubbling action on your skin. Each product is incredibly effective. This set also brought about another revelation, as my husband who has supported my Memehabit but did not express any interest in trying the products, despite my best efforts to spray him with items as he passed by – HE read the description for this set and was keen to try it. So that was very exciting for me. PROGRESS. My husband actually has amazing skin without even trying (jerk), but I just feel the need to somehow snare him in the Memeaddiction… you know, sharing stuff is healthy 😉

ROSEMOON RICH 53% Collagen Smart Balm (50ml, Rv $47)

This Collagen Smart Balm is a nourishing facial cream for deeply hydrating the skin and strengthening the skin’s innate strength and function. Experience super soft, moist, and well-protected skin the next morning with this collagen-rich formula!

Impressions: I feel wholly remiss for not having a proper review of this product for you, but I am using so many creams right now that if I waited until I got to this one this review may have never come to fruition. I can say that the packaging is lovely and my husband has already been eyeing this thing, so it’s possible I will be able to update this with a proper review sooner rather than later. Come to think of it, it would be lovely to have another face to test all these products on – more reason to get him into the Memehole with me! I sincerely expect that I will really like this item. Collagen creates a moisture barrier on our skin, so this will be the perfect night-cream during those cold New England months.

Dermahouse Aloe Vera Moisture Mist (120ml, RV $14)

It’s a moisture splurge for all the super dry and sensitive skin out there! Whether your face is overheate from excessive exposure to the sun or dry and irritated from an exhausting day, Dermahouse’s Aloe Vera Mist delivers an instant replenishing and soothing effect with just a single spritz! Experience softer, healthier, and more radiant skin.

Impressions: Last, but certainly not least, is what has become my most favorite item in the box. You guys. This product seemed so unassuming, with its aloe, simple packaging, and reasonable RV, but I have used it on a daily basis and would be lost without. The scent is heavenly and definitely has some floral undertones. The spray itself is a nice consistency and just makes you feel like all is right with the world when you get it all up in your face. It’s incredibly refreshing, leaves my skin baby soft, and absolutely has a soothing effect. I will certainly be looking for a replacement before this item runs out!

Overall Impression

The overall Memevalue of this box is $169 and I consider my money very well spent. This box has truly exceeded my expectations. I’ve been lovingly using most of the items in it, or just as lovingly saving them for special occasions. Everything has served me tremendously well and I’m sure will continue to do so as winter approaches. If a restock ever emerges I (s)urge you to grab it! (I can’t help myself)

Quality Time with my Daily Dose of Beauty Memebox: a Superbox #48 Unboxing & Review

photo 4 (2)

All my blog posts seem to be coming from bed lately. This time around, I am recovering from surgery (and doing quite well, thanks!) It’s not all that coincidental, as Memebox proves a fantastic diversion when you’re unwell and recuperating. Though is it ever a bad time to receive these goodies? It was a welcome surprise when I found DHL at my door, having delivered this parcel from the lovely people at Memebox. I’ve seen some unboxings and reviews of this particular box floating about and was very intrigued by the contents; so I am thrilled to get my hands on them personally.

To ensure everyone is caught up – Memebox is the #1 beauty box provider in Korea, and arrived here in the US and other countries just recently. They strive to bring us only the most trusted, best-loved Korean beauty products at everyday prices. Korean cosmetics are renowned for their high quality and efficacy. I’ve learned firsthand the stark contrast between Korean cosmetics and those I’ve purchased in the US. Memeboxes come in a variety of themes and price-levels. It’s very easy to fall hard once you get a taste of all they have to offer.

This box is currently out of stock, but sold for $29 + shipping. It contains eight full-sized products, each intended for a different day of the week (with 2ea on Tuesday and Thursday). This is fun concept and here is how Memebox breaks it down:

Makeup Mondays: Beat Monday morning blues! Treatment Tuesdays: Give yourself the ultimate skin pampering session that is fit for a queen! Weird Wednesdays: Surprise yourself with crazy beauty who-know-whats! Therapy Thursday: Give yourself a therapeutic relaxation session! Funky Fridays: Glam up and let loose! Wrinkle-free Weekends: De-stress and erase the years off your face!

On to the contents!

[Mon] Cheek Room Eye Shadow (5g, RV $8)

This was randomly selected from 03 Honey Pink or 08 Gold. Cheek Room’s Eye Shadow feature soft, amazing velvety texture, rich pastel color, and long-lasting and crease-free wear. It also boosts high levels of adherence and blend-ability for featuring most naturally blended and non-smudging color radiance that lasts all day long.

Impressions: I received the Honey Pink color and am quite pleased at that. It’s a soft, neutral tone that still has some punch due to the high shimmer content. This is a nice, every-day/all-over shadow, but would also make a good highlighter. The texture is velvety smooth and, consequently, so it the application. The Memespeak above can get a little repetitive, but I must agree that this item does have staying power. Based on the description, I would have expected a makeup item that was a little more daring, but I have a feeling this will become a staple.

[Tue] Sally’s box Delight Hydrogel Mask (25g x 3, RV $13)

Buzz-worthy hydrogel mask featured in Get It Beautybox by Memebox in Korea! Comes in Kiwi, pear, aloe, peach, banana, acai berry, strawberry, lemon, broccoli, pomegranate, carrot, and paprika. Some key ingredients are rose, moss, rosemary leaf, peppermint leaf, lavender, chamomile, and green tea extracts. These are meant to hydrate and nourish tired skin.

Impressions: I am a sucker for sheet masks and have been wanting to try Sally’s box (not a sentence I expect to utter all that often). The packaging is adorable and declares “I want you to be happy” 😀 The box contained three mask varieties: Delight Collagen, Delight Ceramide, and Delight Panthenol. Collagen I have some familiarity with and those nuggets of wisdom can be found in my Collagen Cosmetics Memebox review. The other two terms I was not familiar with. Ceramides apparently are lipids that are a major component of surface skin structure. Whenever our skin is dry or irritated, we are oftentimes lacking in ceramides. Replenishing these restores the skin’s protective barrier and leaves us less susceptible to environmental factors. Panthenol is often found in hair products, but also skincare. It is a penetrating moisturizer that is absorbed and then converted into Pantothenic Acid – a B complex vitamin. Panthenol assists skincare products in retaining water as well as absorbing water from the air, aiding in moisturization. These sound like absolutely perfect items to take into the Fall and Winter seasons. Having had to deal with being in the hospital for a couple of days and restricted from using any skincare products (torture!), I am incredibly eager to try one of these tonight and will report back.

[also Tue] D’ran Aqua Wonder Intensive Renewing Serum (45ml, RV $43)

The glacier water complex used in the Aqua Wonder Intensive Renewing Serum delivers intensive moisture an nutrition by absorbing quickly and deeply into the skin. When used after emulsion application, it’ll leave your skin shining with a natural, supple glow. Some key ingredients are Glacier water, Panthenol, and fermented soybean extracts. This product is meant to have whitening and anti-wrinkle properties.

Impressions: I love the packaging of this item. It’s sleek and a size that’s not too small, but one that would be convenient for travel. I noticed there is a mirrored finish on the interior of the cap, so this really could be used on-the-go, if need be. The scent is heavily “fresh” – almost like room deodorizer – though not unpleasant and it dissipates as you apply the product and it absorbs. I will be pleased to add this to my serum regimen this winter. Overall, I think Tuesday’s items fit the description, though I don’t necessarily think serum when I hear the word treatment – an overnight pack or mask might have been nice.

[Wed] Yu Choo By Me Steam Silk Hair Pack (1ea, RV $9)

Currently on sale at $15 for a package of 3 in the Memeshop

Effective hair steam treatments can be expensive, but fret not because Memebox has got you covered. This Steam Silk Hair Pack contains argan oil, olive oil, and coconut oil – three ingredients renowned for their deep nourishment and restorative properties. Unlike skin, hairs do not have the ability to recover and renew. Steam Silk Hair Mask is an intense, 15 minute treatment that gives you silky, beautiful hair that turns heads! This product is sold at professional salons in Korea and fairly new to the web.

Impressions: This sounds like a lovely hair treatment, but I would have expected something a little more out there based on the description. Either way, this will be a welcom addition to a pampering sesh. Also, I can’t help but think back to this Simpson’s episode every time I read the brand name, so I’m already a fan.

[Thurs] Grinif Rawganic Jajoba Golden Oil (50ml, RV $36)

‘Rawganic’ refers to non-processed, purely natural ingredients. This Rawganic Jojoba Golden Oil contains over 98% pure, organic jojoba oil and works to deliver intense hydration and nutrition to extremely dry skin types by renewing the moisture/oil balance. It’s a multi-oil with a lightly absorbing texture and a subtle lavender oil fragrance.

Impressions: I’m not really getting the aforementioned lavender scent notes, but really do love the fragrance of this oil. It’s herbal without smelling of medicine. It also has a lovely consistency that doesn’t leave your skin sticky, as with so many other oils I’ve tried. I have a feeling I will largely be using this on my hair and body, though I’ve recently read about the multitude of benefits to be garnered by using oil in your skincare, so I may venture out of my comfort zone and attempt that as well. I’m quite happy to have such a natural item included in the box and I think it absolutely fits the bill as far as the Therapy Thursday description because just the scent alone is like aroma therapy, which I’m finding rather soothing. Aaaah.

[also Thurs] Eglips JolieBeBe Lip Treatment (15ml, RV $8)

Enriched with shea butter, refreshing lime scent, and moisture rich aloe vera complex, the JolieBeBe Lip Treatment delivers instant hydration and nutrition to your dry, chapped lips.

Impressions: Maybe there is something wrong with my nose, but again I am no detecting the aforementioned scent – lime, in this instance. The fragrance is a very strong vanilla, almost cake-batter kind of scent. It’s not unpleasant, particularly for something you are putting on your lips. You might as well pretend it’s something delicious. I have to say, I really wanted to love this item because I’ve been in need of a lip treatment, but I don’t feel as though it’s done all that much for me. I think I will try it again once I receive the lip scrub I ordered from the Memeshop. Maybe my lips were a bit too much for this little guy, so I’ll see how it fares after a good scrubbing.

[Fri] Croquis Belgeum Lipstick (3.2g, RV $20)

With this unique lipstick, there is no need for multiple lip produts anymore. Lip essence, lipstick, lip tint, and lip gloss come together in a single lipstick. It offers a long-lasting, glossy, and vivid lip color all at the same time. Randomly selected from 01 Campari Orange, 02 Sex on the Beach, or 03 Pink Martini.

Impressions: Well this is, indeed, unique. The package is shaped like a lipstick tube, you twist for the pigment, which comes out in cream form. I found that it was best to apply this with a lip brush, which really begged the question as to the practicality of the packaging. I think it may have been better-suited for a nice, compact pot, but can also see how that may not have made it as conducive for a grab-and-go. As you can see, the color out of the tube is incredibly vivid. I received the Pink Martini shade, which probably wouldn’t have been my first choice, but I love that Memebox gives me a chance to experiment with colors I wouldn’t necessarily choose for myself. The lipstick goes on somewhat sheer, so you have the opportunity to really build it up if you don’t want to go full on neon. Very fun and fitting to the Funky Friday description.

[Weekend] ProYou S Wrinkle SC Renewal Ampoule (50ml, RV $96)

Currently on sale in the Memeshop for $56

This face serum dramatically reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines while improving skin elasticity and firmness. Most representative from ProYou’s widely acknowledged anti-aging S Wrinkle SC Renewal line, this ampoule dlievers deep nutrition, improves skin elasticity and firmness, treats signs of fine lines and wrinkles, and rejuvinates the skin by controlling the skin’s moisture/oil balance. It’s free of paraben, alcohol, mineral oil, artificial coloring, artificial, fragrance, and triethanol, while packed with various wrinkle care components. Infused with adenosine, EGF, and amino peptides, this potent formula works to give the appearance of smoother, more revitalized skin.

Impressions: I received the ProYou S Wrinkle Cream in my Anti-Aging 3 box and this seems to boast the same amazing ingredients, but in higher concentration because this is an ampoule. Please check out that review for an outline of the fantastic properties inherent in these ingredients. I am very excited to have received this ampoule. Including this, I have tried three ProYou products to-date and have found them to be of wonderful quality and very effective. It’s reassuring that they are so natural and I’m very pleased to have received so much of this line through various Memeboxes. I don’t have many fine lines or wrinkles to speak of yet (knock on wood), and was tempted to share this with my mother, but I can’t bear to part with it! This item certainly is in-line with the box description as far as erasing years off your face.

 Overall Impressions

I really enjoyed the variety of items in this box. There really is something for everyone and something to address any number of wants or concerns. The Memebox-dictated value of this box was $233 – quite high. We can safely say that at current Memeshop prices, the value would fall to at least $193, but overall you really can’t beat it with a total box cost of ~$36 (including standard shipping). I look forward to more quality time with these items!
